FoodShare
FoodShare pioneers innovative food programs to improve access to fresh produce and build capacity in communities to grow, cook and share food across Toronto. Its programs are committed to food justice, so those experiencing food insecurity are leaders in the development of solutions.
From 2016 to 2020, the Centre supported FoodShare to scale Good Food Markets within the York South-Weston neighbourhood in Toronto, with the goal of increasing access to affordable vegetables and fruit, reducing food insecurity, supporting food education programming, and building leadership and capacity in the community. The Centre’s most recent contribution to FoodShare will help 20 Good Food Markets restart their operations by providing the necessary COVID infrastructure modifications, enabling them to make their initial produce purchases, subsidizing future purchases, and ensuring increased staffing support for operations.
In 2023, the Centre partnered with FoodShare on the Supportive Partnerships Platform which provides tailored supports for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour-led groups working towards food justice and food security initiatives in the Toronto area, as well as the Upskilling Series which provides virtual training opportunities for BIPOC working in the charitable food sector across Canada.
