Community Food Centres Canada
Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC) builds health, belonging and social justice in low-income communities through the power of food. They work with partners to build and support vibrant, food-focused Community Food Centres (CFCs) that provide nutritious food, skill-building opportunities and peer support in a welcoming and dignified environment. CFCC also seeks to strengthen the broader community food sector by providing a variety of knowledge exchange opportunities and supporting public engagement and advocacy on key issues that are connected to food, health and poverty.
The Centre is supporting CFCC with the Market Greens initiative from 2019-2024, which aims to increase affordable access to fruits and vegetables through non-profit community markets, prescriptions and grocery cards, with the goal of delivering improved health outcomes and reduced food insecurity.
From 2017–2020, the Centre supported CFCC’s Knowledge Exchange program that serves as a community of practice for organizations in the food security space. The program engages CFCs as well as Good Food Organizations (GFOs) that are seeking to improve their capacity to offer healthy and dignified food programs in their communities.
In 2022, the Centre renewed it’s commitment to the Knowledge Exchange program which will support Knowledge Swaps and Gatherings, an annual Food Summit for practitioners, virtual training modules, online learning platforms, the Indigenous Knowledge Sharing Circle, and the development of an affliation strategy.
