Food Banks Canada
Food Banks Canada is a national charitable organization dedicated to helping Canadians living with food insecurity. They support a network of provincial associations, affiliate food banks and food agencies that work at the community level to address hunger.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, food banks and community agencies are on the frontlines responding to the increased need. Many of the 3,000+ food banks and community agencies are facing significant challenges as they work to provide their clients with essential services. The Centre, with Maple Leaf Foods, launched the #ApartTogether campaign in April 2020 to support the Food Banks Canada network to meet immediate food access needs of communities facing food insecurity as a result of the pandemic.
In 2022, the Centre began supporting Food Banks Canada to develop a national Material Deprivation Index to better capture the experience of poverty and it’s relationship with food insecurity across the country.
